About Darlene
Born in Huntsville, Alabama raised in upstate New York - spent 20 years living in Asia (Taipei, Hong Kong, Beijing) before moving to Manhattan in 2004. Always been creating things whether edible or not... these are the non-edible creations.
A kneeling, reaching figure, contradicting figural actions depicted in Lee’s Invocation (2002). Invocation, to call upon a spirit, a God, a greater being, warns us of humbleness, and of our fragility. How often do we feel small, alone, like the figure, asking for love, calling out for help, warmth, a listening ear…I am here. I know. Invocation provokes recognition and acknowledgement, and their eclipses: pride and ego in Lee's Figurative paintings.
